Debating Tough Topics
In Humanities today, we were asked to read an article about a controversial topic and then have a class discussion. Now, I have talked to this teacher many times before today, and I knew this was coming. I told her that I was concerned because sometimes I get really mad if someones beliefs are contradicting to mine. She prayed with me, and told me not to worry about it. When I got in there, I really wanted to challenge myself. So, I go in, and we are told to choose partners. I choose Greg. Greg and I are total opposites, but really good friends. I know that our viewpoints would not be the same and we would argue. At first we got the topic of birth control. I laughed and said Greg, we aren't going to debate this. Then we got rape and abortion. I know we'd argue. So, we read the article and talked. I didn't yell or anything. The next task was presenting it in front of the class. I was a little worried about this. I stood near my teachers desk and she asked if I would lead the class in a debate about the issue. It went amazing. I didn't argue, but listened to others opinions. It went great, and it was a huge weight lifted off of my shoulder!
